Mr. Hachimura is one of very few skilled experts in the arts of weaving vines such as wisteria. Mr. Hachimura harvests the vines, known as tsuru or kazura while they are still green and molds them into baskets. The vines harden into the molded shape. Using such ancient raw materials, Mr. Hachimura has been practicing this craft of producing beautiful and functional works for decades.
