  • About this item:
Dear friends, I'm a collector of oriental stuffes, expexcially in religious japanese items (shinto and zen) and I'm from Italy. I write you this because I have been trying for years to buy an item that has not a special monetary and artistic value but a strong sentimental value: I'm talking about the SHAKUJO, tipical buddhist stick with six rings. It has a big affective importance because many years ago my wife was waking up from coma thanks to the sound of the shakujo's rings in a tv program. I hope you can help me to find this item and to buy it. I do not have particular pretends, antique or modern: it's important for what it represent to my family. I'll be waiting for you response as soon as you're ready. Have a good holidays. Pierangelo

This dining set was custom made in Japan in 1970 by Mr. Tatsuo of Suzuki and Company. I am looking for help in estimating its current value. The table top finish is scratched and the brass needs to be polished. The set consists of 1 table with 3 leaves, 6 chairs, a china hutch and a server/buffet. The craftsmanship on this set is outstanding and it would be beautiful in the home of someone who appreciates japanese furniture.

On behalf of my family I'm trying to find out something about this painting. We don't know much about it otherwise that the painting is a gift to a family member several years ago on a business trip to Japan. Therefore, we would very much appreciate if anyone should be able to make an identification on the artist on behalf of the signature, and eventually also the approximate value of the painting. The painting has the size 9x18 centimetres and placed in a wooden box of the size 30x30 centimetres.

Bought at an estate sale, this 8"x7" print titled "Swallows" has been authenticated as a mid to late 19th century wood block print by a local dealer in wood block prints. Although framed probably over a 100 years ago, print seems to be in good shape, and frame still retains it original sealed wood back. Written in what appears to be crayon or ink at bottom of picture is "Swallows" on left side, on right side is "Utamaro". Any advice on this item would be greatly appreciated.

  • About this item:
I acquired this Ukiyo-e original wood block painting at a swap-meet in my area. It is in perfect condition. The print is on traditional rice paper. The subject matter of this piece is a beautiful vibrant green tree limb with what look like maple leaves and bright large pink flowers with blossoms. In the lower left center are two finch like birds in great sienna browns and black. On the bottom right corner of this painting is an oil mark stamp Uchida. On the bottom left it looks like it is numbered 5/8. On the top right hand border is the title of the paiting in pencil of traditional Japanese script. There are also some symbols on the lower left corner painted in red and black, which to me may possibly be the artist mark or signature. I have the certificate of authenticity that was attached to the cardboard the painting was on, which has now been removed from and framed with archival materials. Any information on this peice would be wonderful! I realize that the Japanese are a very old civilization and most paintings aren't what they would call antique. However, I would love to know some history to the fabulous painting!

I have pictures of the vase and the marking on the bottom. I have a history written by a Japanese art collector. The name Taizan (Neizan's understudy) is mentioned as the maker and the name Mr. Yokoya, the famous art collector, is mentioned. It also mentions that this vase was exhibited at the Alaska-Yukon Pacific Exposition. The date of the piece is supposed to be between 1725-1800 A.D. How can I find out more about it, the artist, and its value?
