Kimono - A Type of Traditional Japanese Clothing

English Definition:
Kimono ~ A type of traditional Japanese clothing, also kimono in English

Kimono is the general term used to describe traditional male and female Japanese formal wear. The kimono was originally knows as the "kosode" ("small sleeves") starting in the 8th century in Japan, until the 18th century when it was renamed "kimono."

Kimono are still widely worn in Japan for special occasion such as weddings, graduations, funerals, when performing certain traditional arts, and for certain holidays such as New Year, Adulthood Day and the Shichigosan Festival.

Note: "Kimono" relates to the craft, Yukata, Japanese summer cotton kimonos.
