Hokusai - 18th and 19th century Japanese wood block print artist

English Definition:
Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849), 18th and 19th century Japanese wood block print artist

Best known for his wood block prints (ukiyo-e) of waterfalls, bridges, birds and ghosts. Hokusai is best known for his series "Hokusai Manga" or "Sketches by Hokusai," the series "Fugakku Sanjurokkei" or "36 Views of Mt. Fuji," and the series "FugakkuHyakkei" or "100 Views of Fuji."

Note: "Hokusai" relates to the craft, Ukiyo-e, Japanese wood block printing.
